Dodgers Fan Awarded $475K For Clash With Guards At Stadium
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — A Los Angeles jury has awarded $475,000 to a longtime Dodgers fan for injuries he suffered during a 2009 clash with security guards at Dodger Stadium.
The Superior Court panel deliberated for three hours Tuesday before finding in favor of Leonard Romo in his lawsuit against the Dodgers.
The jury found that Romo was partially negligent, so the award was reduced.
The case stemmed from an incident during a Sept. 16, 2009 game in which the Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1.
Romo says he was injured when guards tackled, handcuffed and dragged him. Romo suffered shoulder, knee, back and neck injuries and later underwent knee surgery and has since been unable to work.
Defense attorneys said Romo and his daughter became belligerent when security guards asked her to turn her T-shirt inside out because it had offensive language on it.
Romo says he continues to support the team. "I'll always be a fan," he said.
