McCourt Breaks Silence About Putting Dodgers Up For Sale
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Frank McCourt broke his silence Monday for the first time since agreeing to sell the Los Angeles Dodgers.
McCourt attended the dedication of the newest Dodgers Dreamfield Monday afternoon at Mona Park in Compton.
But the crowd of reporters in attendance weren't there to talk about the baseball field. Many kept asking if McCourt was thinking about changing his mind and keeping the team.
"I made a decision and I'm going to stick to that decision," McCourt said. "It got to a point where it became very, very clear to me that it was the right decision. And, like I said, I'm at peace with the decision."
"It wasn't my first choice but it's something I'm comfortable with."
Just two months ago, McCourt reassured KCAL9 reporter Dave Lopez outside an L.A. courthouse that there was no way he'd part with the team.
Lopez caught up with McCourt after the event Monday and asked if he had a timeline on the sale.
"No timeline other than what's out there right now," McCourt said.
"Ever since I've been here the fans have been unbelievable to me. Fans love this franchise and I understand that in my core.
"I'm sorry for any inconvenience or any trouble for the fans -- that's the last thing I wanted."
Dodger center fielder Matt Kemp, who is rumored to be signing an 8-year, $160 million contract with the team, also attended the event Monday and lead a clinic on the field for students from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School.
Last summer, the Dodgers Dream Foundation and the LA84 Foundation committed to creating nine new Dodgers Dreamfields in the greater Los Angeles area, increasing the number of Dreamfields to 19.
The field is the seventh Dodgers Dreamfield dedicated this year, bringing the organization's total to 20.
"I just want to fulfill that pledge. I just want to make sure that whatever happens here that the work of the Dodgers Dream Foundation continues."
