Dodgers Clinch Home Field Advantage For NLDS With Win
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — With the Mets losing both games of their doubleheader on Saturday, the Dodgers had a chance to clinch home field advantage for the NLDS with a win against the Padres.
The Dodgers sent Zack Greinke to the mound against the Padres and he was able to surrender just one run over 8 innings.
Justin Turner homered in the bottom of the first inning, his 16th of the year, to put the Dodgers ahead 1-0.
The Dodgers had runners on first and third with no outs in the 4th inning, but were only able to score one run off of an Adrian Gonzalez double play ball.
Greinke's only miscue of the game came in the 5th inning when he let up a home run to Padres catcher Austin Hedges.
Greinke eclipsed the 200 strikeout mark for the season with 8 strikeouts, doing so for the 5th time in his MLB career.
He finished the season with a 1.66 ERA which led the entire MLB.
Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig returned to the lineup tonight after missing over 30 games due to a strained right hamstring, and extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the 2nd inning.
Kenley Jansen entered the game in the 9th inning to seal the game and secure home field advantage in the NLDS.
Jansen earned his 36th save of the season.
Clayton Kershaw will take the mound tomorrow in the Dodgers' final regular season game of the year against the Padres.
