Dodgers Clayton Kershaw Voted NL Player Of The Month For June
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw was voted the National League Pitcher of the Month for June.
The 26-year-old threw his first career no-hitter June 18 and had a 0.82 ERA (4 ER/44.0 IP) last month with six wins and 61 strikeouts.
Kershaw tied with Philadelphia's Cole Hamels for the most innings pitched in June and held opposing hitters to a .161 batting average, which was second in the N.L. behind Chicago Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta (.157).
He also did not allow a single run in his last three starts. The 24-inning scoreless streak marked the longest such streak in his career since he pitched 22 scoreless innings in May 2012.
The two-time N.L. Cy Young Award-winner joined Josh Beckett as the second member of the Dodgers rotation to throw a no-hitter in the 2014 season. The only blemish on his otherwise perfect outing that the Dodgers won 8-0 was an error in the seventh inning.
The no-hitter was the 22nd in franchise history, the most by a single club in the Major Leagues. This is the third career Player of the Month honor for Kershaw, who also won for July 2013 and July 2011.
