Doctor Says Anna Nicole Had Chronic Pain Syndrome

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A doctor for Anna Nicole Smith says the late Playboy model had chronic pain syndrome that was a challenge to treat because she was addicted to prescription drugs.

Dr. Victor Kovner testified for a second day Wednesday in the Los Angeles trial of two other doctors and Smith's boyfriend.

They have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to provide Smith with massive amounts of drugs and to prescribing to an addict. They are not charged with her overdose death in 2007.

Kovner says Smith had chronic pain from an unknown cause and took drugs for both physical and emotional relief. He says she refused his suggestion to enter rehab.

He also says she had a substance abuse disorder so severe that "she could become addicted to Jello."
