Disneyland Resort Voluntarily Closes Some Rides After Cal/OSHA Citations

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Two major attractions at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim remained shut down on Sunday as part of a voluntary closure by park officials.

Space Mountain, Soarin' over California, and the Matterhorn were closed by Disneyland officials after the park received seven citations from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal/OSHA).

The Matterhorn has since reopened.

The citations received Friday involve an incident that occurred on the Space Mountain attraction in November.

According to the Cal/OSHA website, an employee of a contractor was injured while performing building maintenance.

"We have received notification of the citations and are working with OSHA to fully review them," said Suzi Brown, Director of Media Relations and External Communications for Disneyland Resort, in a statement.

Brown says rider safety was not an issue with the attractions but that the action to temporarily close the rides was taken in order to review safety protocol for Disneyland employees, known as cast members.

"We constantly strive to maintain a safe work environment for our cast members and contractors — and we are reviewing certain protocols," she said.

It's not known how long the closure of Space Mountain and Soarin' over California will last.
