Disneyland Closing Matterhorn Ride For $1 Million Renovation
ANAHEIM (CBS) — Disneyland is closing the famous Matterhorn ride for what could be its biggest overhaul since the attraction opened 53 years ago.
The mountain will be repainted, rocks repaired and the ride's bobsleds will be updated, a Disney spokesperson said.
A permit filed with the city of Anaheim also states that the park will be replacing the ride's gates and changing out the lines are set up.
The ride was Disneyland's first roller coaster and was inspired by a trip Walt Disney took to the Swiss Alps.
The $1 million update is "routine maintenance" and should be completed by June, according to the park.
The ride opened in 1959.
