'Disney Wonder' Returns To Port Of Los Angeles
SAN PEDRO (CBS) — The nearly 1,000-foot Disney Wonder is back in Southern California waters.
The Disney Cruise Line, which is capable of carrying 2,400 passengers, arrived Friday in San Pedro, where it will be based for the next two years.
The ship, now out on a 2-day cruise, will depart for a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Rivera on Sunday. Those trips will continue through March, then the 10-deck Wonder will start a series of cruises to Vancouver and Alaska.
"Returning to the Port of Los Angeles is not only a huge vote of confidence in our ability to attract world-class cruise lines, it will also generate revenue and jobs for our city by increasing tourism," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said.
Disney operated ships out of the Port of Los Angeles on a test basis in the summer of 2005 and 2008.
Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas and Norwegian Cruise Lines' Norwegian Star, which had operated out of San Pedro, recently discontinued trips to Mexico.
