DIS Leaves 17-Year-Old Burglary Suspect Seriously Wounded
LYNWOOD (CBS) — Authorities say a deputy-involved shooting in Lynwood left a 17-year-old male suspected burglar seriously wounded.
The shooting occurred about 9:45 a.m. in the 4100 block of Abbot Road, said Deputy Robert Boese of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.
No deputies were injured.
Deputies from the Century Station had responded to a burglary in progress call. A woman said she was in her house when the suspect knocked on her front door, said Deputy Lillian Peck.
The victim did not answer the door but saw him walk south and across Abbot Road to a car with two additional suspects inside.
He got into the car and they drove away, north on Dorothy Street, out of
view.
Shortly after, the victim saw the suspect who had knocked on her door jump over her rear wall and go into her backyard. She ran to a neighbor's home and called for help.
When deputies arrived, they reportedly saw the suspect jumping out of a window.
The suspect went into the front of a fenced-in yard of a nearby home where he was confronted by deputies who were on the outside of the fence.
He jumped over the rear fence and was confronted by a deputy. The deputy ordered the suspect at gunpoint to stop and raise his hand. Instead the suspect turned to face the deputy and put his hand inside of his left front pants pocket. The deputy fired his weapon.
A weapon was not found on the suspect.
Anyone with knowledge of this case was asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureauat (323) 890-5500.
