Did Schwarzenegger's CHP Detail Know About Secret Child?
SACRAMENTO (AP) — Throughout his seven years as governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger was accompanied nearly everywhere he went by a state-funded security detail that protected him and his family.
The California Highway Patrol provides security for most of the statewide elected officials, and in Schwarzenegger's case, the four children he had with wife Maria Shriver.
What's unknown is whether those officers knew that Schwarzenegger had another child, a boy whom he acknowledged this week he fathered with a former housekeeper at the family's Brentwood home.
Whether the CHP helped Schwarzenegger carry on his relationship with the woman or his son is also not known.
CHP Protective Services division Chief Mike Nivens says the agency will not discuss any details of the security it provides. He says the policy mirrors that of the Secret Service.
