Detectives Hand Out Fliers To Help Track Down Koreatown Hit-And-Run Driver
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — LAPD detectives handed out fliers Thursday in an attempt to track down the driver of a Lincoln SUV that hit a woman and her grandson.
The accident happened around 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 7 when 48-year-old Emma Cermeno and her 5-year-old grandson, Alvin, were crossing Beverly Boulevard in Koreatown, police said.
The pair was hit by an gray early-2000 Lincoln Navigator. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.
"This person knows that they hit someone or something. They should have stopped," LAPD Det. Felix Padilla said.
Both Cermeno and the boy were hospitalized and later released. The 5-year-old suffered internal injuries as well as a fractured jaw, which had to be wired shut, and he may have permanent damage to his eye socket.
"The impact that he took was tremendous. It knocked him over 50 feet from the point of impact into the entrance of an alley," Padilla said. "It's remarkable that he survived."
The driver faces felony hit and run charges.
"The case is not going to close, and we're not going away," Padilla added.
Anyone with information on the vehicle or the suspect was asked to contact the LAPD at (213)833-3713.
