Detectives Seek Man Accused In 2 Attempted Robberies Of Costa Mesa Banks
COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Detectives sought the public's help Wednesday with identifying a man that attempted to rob two banks in Costa Mesa.
According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, around 12:32 p.m. on Monday, a Caucasian male, between the ages of 40 to 50-years-old, entered a Bank of America located in the 500 block of West 19th Street and approached a teller.
Officers explained the suspect reportedly claimed he wanted to make a deposit, and gave the teller a note, which demanded money.
The teller proceeded to step away from her window and showed the note to her manager.
According to police, the suspect fled from the bank before receiving any money from the teller.
He was last seen on foot heading Northbound on Maple Street, wearing a hat.
Later that afternoon, the same suspect, who changed his clothes, entered a Wells Fargo Bank around 12:50 p.m. located in the 2300 block of Harbor Boulevard.
He presented a similar note to the previous attempted robbery, which demanded money from the teller.
Police explained the suspect became nervous as the teller read the letter.
He left the bank before receiving any money, and was last seen on foot heading East on Wilson Street.
Detectives said the suspect stands no taller than 6-foot-2.
