Detectives Scour Westmont For Clues In Death Of Dismembered Newborn
WESTMONT (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in conjunction with volunteers went door-to-door in search of clues in the gruesome death of a newborn in an unincorporated area of South Los Angeles.
On Tuesday night, at least 50 Los Angeles County Sheriff's personnel and volunteers scoured the area and passed out flyers.
"We would like to give a name and a face to this infant," said Det. Francis Hardiman of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Detectives said dismembered remains of the newborn between 1 to 3 days old were found Saturday in the backyard of a home on W. 104th Street in Westmont.
A homeowner alerted authorities about 10 a.m. after Britany Plascencia, a 9-year-old girl, initially discovered the leg of the newborn. More remains were located in the backyard.
Investigators are now asking neighbors to check trash cans and yards for missing parts.
"I started looking in my trash cans just looking around and keeping my gate locked," said Estelle Perkins, a neighbor.
Detectives would also like to speak with any women who were recently pregnant but are no longer pregnant and the baby is absent.
