Detectives Look For Rightful Owners Of 3K Pieces Of Stolen Jewelry Found In Beverly Hills
BEVERLY HILLS (CBS) — Detectives are looking for the rightful owners of nearly 3,000 pieces of high quality jewelry and watches that were found inside a Beverly Hills home.
The stash of loot was found inside a hidden compartment of a home and was seized by the LAPD West Valley Division.
Sources tell Suraya Fadel, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, the home where the jewelry was found belongs to a downtown Los Angeles jewelry store owner.
We've learned the District Attorney's office has not filed any charges but how and why the property got to the man's home remains unclear.
Police released photos of each stolen item hoping to return the property to their rightful owners.
Detectives say the items are connected to the ongoing "knock-knock" burglaries which have occurred in the San Fernando Valley and the westside over the course of the last few years.
Police say the suspects have the same Modus operandi.
Home surveillance cameras captured one of the incidents in Porter Ranch. The suspects knock at broad daylight and when no one is home, they break in and take off with jewelry and cash.
Investigators tell Fadel many times the property is pawned off or sold to Downtown jewelry stores.
Former NFL player Willie Gault was one of the victims. Five months ago, his Encino home was burglarized and his Super Bowl rings were stolen and later recovered.
Sources tell Fadel the Gault case led to tips which eventually led to the Beverly Hills location where jewelry of all kinds were recently discovered.
More detailed information on this case is expected to be released next week.
