Deputy Seriously Wounded In Dorner Shootout Throws First Pitch At Angels-Dodgers Game
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy seriously wounded in a shootout with rogue ex-cop Christopher Dorner threw out the first pitch at Wednesday night's Angels-Dodgers game.
Deputy Alex Collins has undergone several surgeries since he was repeatedly shot Feb. 12 in the same ambush that took the life of his partner, Det. Jeremiah MacKay.
Collins, who wore a Mike Trout jersey, told KCAL9's Jim Hill that the support he's gotten since the tragic event has been overwhelming and has helped in his recovery.
"The community has been great. I've been getting letters, phone calls, emails. I'm just so proud to be a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. A huge, great family," he said.
Collins said throwing the pitch to former Angel Tony Phillips was more than he could ever imagine.
"I'm a huge baseball fan and a huge Angels fan, so this is a dream come true," he said.
Not only did Collins make his appearance on the mound, but he also got to hang out in the dugout with Manager Mike Scioscia.
