Deputy Opens Fire On Gunman Armed With Assault Rifle In Compton
COMPTON (AP) — A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy opened fire and wounded a man who pointed an assault rifle at him on a Compton street.
Investigators say 23-year-old Trayvon White has been booked for investigation of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
Deputy Benjamin Grubb says in a news release that White was standing in the street near an illegally parked car when deputies approached him at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
As deputies got closer, they noticed he was holding an assault rifle.
White ran away and, after a short foot pursuit, he pointed the weapon at a deputy.
The deputy then fired. White didn't fire his weapon.
