Deputy-Involved Shooting Leaves Suspect Injured
SOUTH EL MONTE (CBS) — Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators are trying to unravel what led an off-duty deputy to shoot a man during an apparent road-rage dispute.
"He was hit at least once in the upper body" Sheriff's Lt. John Hawking said.
Hawking said the deputy, who works at a jail, was on his way home when the shooting took place about 2:30 p.m. Friday on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway between Rosemead Boulevard and Peck Road.

"A motorist pulled up alongside him and was gesturing to him as if he was going to ask him a question. When the deputy looked over at the motorist, the motorist pulled out a handgun and fired at the deputy," he said.
Hawking said the deputy drove on and then pulled over.
"And the suspect pulled in behind him and a second shooting occurred at that time," Hawking said.
The wounded suspect drove off but was arrested, according to Hawking. He was listed in critical condition.
The deputy was not injured.
