Deputies Search For Car Theft Suspect In Malibu
MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — A search was underway by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Monday morning for a kidnapping and car theft suspect who escaped from custody in Malibu.
Authorities were searching for a man the area off Pacific Coast Highway and Corral Canyon Road, officials said.
According to officials, 32-year-old Jaci Barragon is suspected of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend in the South Gate-area overnight, Sgt. Anthony Arnold told KNX 1070.
Barragon then drove to Malibu and possibly sexually assaulted the woman in her sedan. Deputies came across the vehicle on Corral Canyon Road, near Pacific Coast Highway, around 1:40 a.m., and determined it was stolen, officials said.
Authorities tried to arrest Barragon but escaped when partially handcuffed. He was last seen wearing a black tank top and no shoes.
"We consider this person dangerous," spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
A sheriff's deputy suffered injuries to his hands and knee in the escape.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
