Human Skull Found Along LA Riverbed In Bell

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding human remains found in Bell on Sunday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the remains were located around 8 a.m. along the Los Angeles riverbed, just north of Slauson Avenue and West of the Long Beach 710 Freeway, just East of District Boulevard.

Detectives explained that East Los Angeles deputies were contacted after a man and a woman discovered what appeared to be a human skull as they walked in the area of the river bed.

Homicide detectives have confirmed that the remains discovered are of a human skull.

CBS2's Adrianna Weingold said the skull was found just upstream from the Slauson Bridge.

Investigators searched the area for more remains, she reported.

"It's too early to tell right now how long the human remains had been at the location," said LA County Sheriff's Department Lt. Steve Jauch.

He added, "the skull itself is not completely intact."

The cause of death and identity of the victim is unknown.
