Deputies Nab Bank Robbery Suspect During Routine Traffic Stop

TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — Deputies say they caught a man suspected of robbing a Citibank in Temecula when he was later stopped for a traffic violation.

The robbery was reported at 2:03 p.m. Friday in the 26000 block of Ynez Road, Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Kevin McDonald said.

A man walked in and handed a bank teller a note demanding cash. He was able to flee with an undisclosed amount of money in a Ford F-150 pickup truck with an extended cab.

Around an hour later, a deputy pulled over the driver for an alleged traffic violation at Winchester and Nicolas roads, McDonald said.

The deputy realized that truck matched the description of the one from the robbery and he placed the driver, 44 -year-old Dunn Patrick Thompson, under arrest.

Deputies reportedly seized evidence tying Thompson to the Citibank holdup. They're looking into whether the Riverside resident is connected to other bank robberies in southwest Riverside County, McDonald said.
