9-year-old boy shot outside grandfather's house in Compton
A nine-year-old boy was shot and killed outside of his grandfather's house in Compton on Saturday evening.
Princeton Jones was shot around 7:40 p.m. in the 15000 block of Haskins Avenue near Alondra Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who are investigating the incident.
Detectives have not yet released details surrounding the shooting, but community activists say that Jones was the grandson of a man living in the area.
During a press conference on Sunday, they called for immediate action on gun violence.
"We have to send a message loud and clear that the murder of our children will not be tolerated," said Najee Ali. "We're gonna do everything in our power to draw attention to it and hopefully help end it."
"This is a lifetime hurt," said Jackie Jones Lee. "For this family, that child will have no legacy to leave them."
Deputies did not disclose a suspect involved in the shooting and no information on a motive was provided.
