Deputies Freeing Dog From Hot Car Find Marijuana, $10K Cash
WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBS) — Sheriff's deputies called out to free a dog from a hot car in West Hollywood Sunday discovered several bundles of sealed marijuana and $10,000 worth of cash.
Deputies from the West Hollywood station were called out to the 1200 block of North Ogden Drive at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday to check on a dog locked inside a red, 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with Arizona plates. The high in West Hollywood was 72 degrees, but because temperatures inside a closed car can get much hotter, deputies decided to enter the vehicle to rescue the dog.
The dog, identified as a German Pointer, was safely removed and put in the custody of Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control personnel, sheriff's officials said.
The dog was listed Monday in good condition.
The deputies, in an attempt to identify the car and the dog's owner, opened a bag inside the vehicle and found seven pounds of marijuana worth $24,000 and a large quantity of cash -- $10,000 worth. The drugs, the money and the vehicle were impounded as evidence.
