Deadly Hit-And-Run Crash Reported In South LA
HYDE PARK (CBSLA.com) — A man was hit and killed Saturday evening crossing Crenshaw Boulevard in Hyde Park.
Officials believed the victim to be 18 or 19 years old.
The impact was so powerful the victim's shoes were knocked off his feet. A witness said the victim also flew about thirty feet.
The incident occurred at 78th and Crenshaw around 6:15 p.m.
The victim was pronounced dead at Ronald Reagan UCLA Hospital in Westwood.
Witnesses were able to give police a license plate. The alleged hit-and-run car was found nearby in Inglewood, at Crenshaw and Imperial. The driver fled and is being sought by police.
Michele Jones told KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo that the impact was so loud she thought two cars had collided.
"I heard this loud bang. I saw the guy roll over and hit the ground. He was just laying there. He wasn't moving or making a breathing motion. The paramedics came and turned him over but it didn't look good," said Jones.
The suspect, driving a late model Mercedes, possibly sustained facial injuries in the accident. The car had considerable damage to the windshield, the air bags also employed.
