Dead body discovered on stairwell at Redondo Beach Pier

A public works employee discovered a dead body at the Redondo Peach Pier Friday morning.

Authorities discovered the victim's body in a stairwell in the pier parking lot off Torrance Boulevard at about 6:10 a.m. The man, believed to be homeless, was shot in the head, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department. 

Redondo Beach Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. 

"Detectives from the Redondo Beach Police Department Investigations Unit have initiated a homicide investigation and are following several leads," the RBPD said in a statement.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation. There was no word on a suspect description. 

On Tuesday, the victim was identified as 43-year-old Teddy Campos by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
