Shots Fired By Seal Beach Police During Pursuit, Crashes; Suspect Caught
WESTMINSTER (CBSLA) – A suspect was arrested early Friday morning in Westminster following a dangerous pursuit that resulted in two collisions and officer-involved shooting. No one was seriously hurt.
California Highway Patrol reports that the incident at 12:38 a.m., when Seal Beach police located a car that had been wanted in a previous incident of an assault on an officer.
Seal Beach police tried to pull over the car, it took off and a chase ensued.
About six minutes into the pursuit, CHP reports, the suspect was involved in a crash on the westbound 22 Freeway near Valley View Street in Garden Grove. When the Seal Beach officers tried to arrest the driver, an officer-involved shooting occurred.
It's unclear if the driver was armed or opened fire on police.
The driver then took off again, exited the freeway, and was immediately involved in a second collision at Garden Grove Boulevard and Goldenwest Street in Westminster, CHP reports.
Following the second crash, the suspect was arrested. He was not hurt, but was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation before being arrested. No officers were injured either, CHP said.
The suspect's name and the exact charges he is facing were not immediately confirmed.
