Dad To Be Arraigned In Murder Of His 10-Month-Old Daughter
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A 20-year-old man who allegedly killed his 10-month-old daughter during a fight with his wife is being held on $5 million bail after his arrest in Mexico.
Jose Tulio Deras, who is in custody at the sheriff's South Los Angeles station, is expected to be arraigned Thursday in Downey Superior Court.
His daughter, Valerie, died of blunt force trauma injuries Saturday when Deras and his wife were fighting at their home in the 5100 block of McCallum Avenue in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker.
Deras, a Salvadoran national, fled to Mexico and he was detained Monday in Mexico City, Lt. Dave Coleman of the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau said.
Mexican officials flew Deras to Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday. He was then turned over to Customs and Border Protection officers, U.S. Marshals, and Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies.
