DA Lacey Asks Court To Halt Release Of Convicted Rapist
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office took legal action Tuesday to prevent a serial rapist from being released from prison.
KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta reports District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced today that her office will file a writ challenging a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge's ruling to release Christopher Hubbart.

In May, Judge Gilbert Brown granted Hubbart's request for conditional release from custody and determined that Hubbart should be conditionally released to Los Angeles County, where he was born and raised. He is due for release in November.
Hubbart admitted raping approximately 40 women throughout California between 1971 and 1982, including 26 women in Los Angeles County, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Lacey asked the 6th District Court of Appeal in San Jose to compel the Superior Court to vacate its order granting Hubbart's conditional release to Los Angeles County. She also asked the court to stop Hubbart's release from state custody until the trial court reconsiders its domicile order.
"Our ultimate goal is to seek justice for all residents of Los Angeles County and make sure sexually violent predators remain in custody," Lacey said. "This inmate has a long history of horrific violence against women and we must act to keep our community safe."
Earlier this week, Lacey directed her staff to begin notifying victims from Hubbart's earlier L.A. County cases about his possible release from custody.
