Crews Work To Repair Water Main Break In Highland Park
HIGHLAND PARK (CBSLA.com) — Crews Monday worked to repair a water main that ruptured in Highland Park.
An eight-inch water main broke shortly before 3 a.m., spewing large amounts of water in the 200 block of North Avenue 55 near Monte Vista Street, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Officials subsequently closed Monte Vista Street between North Avenue 55 and North Avenue 54.
LADWP Utility Supervisor John Cox said the water main that ruptured is believed to be 78-years-old.
"We have replaced main lines that are 80-years-old," explained Cox. "Depending on the soil conditions, and depending on the pressure in the area, you may have more leaks and you may need to replace them quicker. At this area, 100 years is not unheard of."
Shortly after 6 a.m., authorities completely shut off water in the area. About 30 residents were impacted by the incident.
No schools were affected in the area, officials clarified.
According to LADWP officials, service restoration is estimated to be returned at noon.
