Crews Reopen EB 10 Freeway Lanes Following Deadly Big Rig, 8 Vehicle Accident
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — Cleanup and an investigation was under way Tuesday after two crashes involving eight vehicles and a big rig killed one person and injured nine others on the 10 Freeway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, two simultaneous accidents happened around 8:15 p.m. near the Towne Avenue exit in Pomona.
"The first one was four passenger vehicles and a big rig trailer and the second one was four passenger vehicles," Officer Patrick Kimball told KNX 1070.

Four vehicles were reportedly trapped underneath a truck hauling furniture, and four others reportedly spun out and crashed into a freeway guard rail.
The big rig caught fire and witnesses reported explosions from the truck. More than 100 gallons of diesel fuels also leaked from the big rig into a nearby storm drain, the CHP said.
One person was confirmed dead on the scene. Nine others were injured, including four critically.
The crash closed both directions of the freeway between Indian Hill Boulevard and Garey Avenue.
Westbound lanes were reopened around 9:30 p.m. Monday and all eastbound were reopened just past 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.
