Missing Hiker Found Safe And Sound In Angeles National Forest
DUARTE (AP) — A Los Angeles search and rescue team and sheriff's helicopter found a missing Orange County hiker Monday in a rugged section of Angeles National Forest.
Scott Gossard, 44, hadn't been heard from since a late Friday telephone call telling his mother he had arrived safely and would set off on a one-day hike Saturday morning. He was reported missing early Monday, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.
Gossard was found safe and sound Monday afternoon. He apparently got caught up in an area with deep and thick brush.
Sheriff's Lt. Angela Shepherd says the Anaheim man's silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was found in the forest's remote Buckhorn area north of Duarte and there was no sign of Gossard.
An eight to 10 member search and rescue team and a sheriff's helicopter looked in the 6,151-foot level of Triplet Rocks, considered the most challenging hiking area in the forest.
