Crews Making Progress On Closed Section Of 210 Freeway
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Crews broke up and hauled away enough pavement to fill 40 dump trucks, then moved on to the next stage of a big repair job on the westbound 210 freeway in Pasadena.
The westbound lanes were closed at 10 p.m. Friday between Lake Avenue and Mountain Street. The eastbound ramp from the Ventura (134) Freeway to the westbound Foothill Freeway was also closed, along with the westbound Foothill Freeway off-ramps at Marengo Avenue and Mountain Street, and the Walnut Street on-ramp.
CalTrans is calling the project "RoseJam."
According to CalTrans, work in on schedule and lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.
By late Saturday afternoon, crews were well into the process of installing new rebar and repaving.
According to Caltrans, the freeway's use as a major connector between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties means the "road has experienced extensive wear."
"The closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project in both directions of I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Canada Flintridge and Pasadena," according to Caltrans.
"Once the project is completed in 2018 the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures."
This weekend's closure will be repeated July 29-Aug. 1 for further repairs.
