Crews Battle Grass Fire Near Unoccupied Whittier School
WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters battled a small grass fire Thursday in Whittier, authorities said.
The fire near Fred D. Nellis School at 11850 Whittier Boulevard was reported to be as large as five acres around 3:20 p.m. and was 50 percent contained, according to Los Angeles County Fire.
Some residences were being evacuated, Whittier Police said.
The school grounds were unoccupied and have not function for several years, according to police.
No other information was immediately available.
