Crews Knock Down 2 Brush Fires In Malibu

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Crews in Malibu have managed to put out two brush fires along Kanan Dume Road.

Crews responded at 3:35 p.m. Friday to a half-acre brush fire, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Plumes of smoke could be seen up to a half-mile away.

A second fire was reported nearby at 3:43 p.m.

Firefighters were concerned because windy weather and the hillsides' dry vegetation made the area susceptible to having flames spread quickly. Crews used water-dropping helicopters and ground crews to gain the upper hand.

Kanan Dume Road was temporarily closed between Pacific Coast Highway and Mulholland Highway.

The two fires combined burned less than 5 acres of brush, fire officials reported.
