Fire In Huntington Park Causes $5M In Damages
HUNTINGTON PARK (CBS) — A two-alarm fire at a food processing plant in Huntington Park caused about $5 million in damages Monday.
The fire at Windsor Foods Golden Tiger in the 6700 block of Alameda Street began around 5:30 a.m. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles as the fire burned through the roof.
Workers discovered the fire -- which apparently started in a boiler room -- when they reported to work and initially tried to fight the blaze with hand extinguishers before evacuating, according to reports from the scene.
The fire was fueled by soybean oil used in the cooking process, county fire officials said.
Roughly 150 firefighters responded to the blaze. A woman running from the building suffered a possible broke arm, and a firefighter was treated for a minor injury, officials said.
