Covina behavioral therapist arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor

The Covina Police Department arrested a former behavioral therapist on Wednesday accused of sexually abusing a minor. 

Detectives released his photo to urge additional victims to come forward. 

Officers arrested 25-year-old Matthew Martinez for unlawful sexual acts with a minor. He's currently being held without bail until his arraignment hearing.

Detectives encouraged potential victims or anyone with information on the case to contact Detective C. Hagle at (626) 384-5621 or via email at chagle@covinaca.gov.

Martinez worked for the Foothill Family between 2023 and 2025. He is currently not employed by the company, according to police. 

Foothill Family is a mental health provider with clinics in Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Pasadena, Pomona and West Covina. Their service primarily focuses on childhood development and social services throughout Los Angeles County.
