Judge Grants Temporary Conservatorship Over Actress Amanda Bynes
OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A judge Friday granted the mother of actress Amanda Bynes temporary conservatorship over decisions involving her daughter's health and finances.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Glen M. Reiser said he arrived at his decision after talking with an investigator who had questioned the 27-year-old Bynes along with reviewing a doctor's evaluation.
The decision will give Bynes' mother control over her daughter's $3.5 million estate as well as decisions over her well being, according to CBS2's Amy Johnson.
Both of Bynes' parents, Richard and Lynn, appeared in court. Their attorney, Tamar Arminak, said to reporters that her clients, "are just really interested in getting their daughter well."
Just three weeks ago, the actress allegedly started a small fire in the driveway of a Thousand Oaks home. That fire was the latest in a string of incidents allegedly involving the actress both in Los Angeles and New York.
Bynes, who remains in a county psychiatric facility, was not present during the hearing. Her court-appointed attorney said in court that her client opposes the conservatorship.
Another hearing is scheduled for Sept. 30.
