Court Delayed For Elderly Man Accused Of Beating Roommate To Death
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have postponed a first court appearance for an 81-year-old man charged with beating his elderly rehab roommate to death because he was angry the man was singing in Vietnamese.
A prosecutor said Tuesday that arraignment for William McDougall was rescheduled for Wednesday.
McDougall is charged with one felony count of murder and is being held on $1 million bail.
Prosecutors say McDougall took a metal rod from the closet at the Palm Terrace Healthcare Center in Laguna Woods on Oct. 1 and hit Manh Van Nguyen multiple times in the head because he would not stop singing.
The two men were both recovering from hip surgery.
Monday would have been Nguyen's 95th birthday.
