San Gabriel Mountain Roads Closed Until Storm Passes
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — County roads crossing the San Gabriel Mountains have been closed as a precaution until the storm passes.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works late Saturday night closed:
-- Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Angeles Crest Highway;
-- Big Tujunga Canyon Road from the Los Angeles city limits to Angeles Forest Highway and to the Angeles Crest Highway;
-- Upper Big Tujunga Road from Angeles Forest Highway to Angeles Crest Highway.
The roads, which are often used a shortcut for Antelope Valley commuters, are expected to reopen once the storm passes.
Winds out of the south at 30-50 mph are predicted Sunday afternoon and some gusts up about 75 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow will fall at elevations of about 5,000 or more and overnight lows will dip into the 20s.
A NWS winter storm warning will be in effect for the mountains though noon Monday and a flash flood watch will be in effect through Sunday night.
