Costa Mesa Man, 42, Gets 95 Year Sentence For Raping Woman And Girl, 17
FULLERTON (CBS) — A 42-year-old Costa Mesa man was sentenced Wednesday to 95 years to life in prison for raping a woman and a 17-year-old girl.
Jaime Zamora Ramirez, former manager of a dry-cleaning business, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Kazuharu Makino.
Ramirez was found guilty July 20 of two felony counts of forcible sexual penetration with sentencing enhancement allegations for forcibly raping multiple victims and committing a sexual offense during a residential burglary.
Ramirez managed First Class Cleaners in Fountain Valley at the time of the rapes in 2008 and 2009. Both victims worked for him.
Ramirez went drinking and dancing with friends, including the first victim, at a Fullerton nightclub before ending up at her Anaheim apartment complex in the early morning hours of Oct. 12, 2008.
Prosecutor Jennifer Walker successfully argued that Ramirez forced the woman to have sex with him there after contending that he planned only to sleep on her couch. He was convicted on an additional enhancement charge of stealing items from her home.
Ramirez also was convicted of raping a then-17-year-old co-worker at his Costa Mesa condominium on July 11, 2009. The girl testified that Ramirez told the girl -- who was in the U.S. illegally -- that she would get in trouble with immigration officials if she reported him.
Deputy Public Defender Celia Laureles unsuccessfully argued that her client had consensual sex with his friend and that the girl was lying.
Ramirez also has a felony conviction for vehicular manslaughter in 1992.
