Cosby Accuser Reacts To Newly Unsealed Court Documents
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — One of Bill Cosby's most vocal accusers is reacting to newly unsealed court documents in which the comedian, according to the Associated Press, admitted to giving quaaludes to at least one woman before sex.
"The haters. The haters that came forward that didn't believe me," said former model Janice Dickinson. Dickinson has accused the 77-year-old Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her in 1982.
"I will not feel vindicated until Cosby personally acknowledges to each and every one of us what he has done with his sins," she said.
Dickinson's story is very similar to the accusations of more than 30 other women who have come forward.
"I think it's actually quite disheartening that it takes one man admitting guilt to get people to listen rather than 30-plus women who have been saying the same story," said Nora Mitchell, rape victim advocate.
Mitchell is with Los Angeles' Peace over Violence nonprofit, and says only 2 to 8 percent of rape accusations are false.
That percentage is the same as every other crime. Yet, she says, it gets treated very differently.
"If you reported your car stolen, the police officer wouldn't come to you and ask you, 'Are you sure it was stolen?' 'Are you sure you didn't lend someone your car?' " Mitchell said.
Some of those who once backed Cosby are now speaking out against him. Musician Jill Scott, who once came to his defense, wrote on Twitter (@missjillscott):
"We really have to start asking ourselves, 'Why aren't we believing these women? Why didn't we believe all of these women?' " Mitchell said.
The judge, who unsealed the documents, pointed to Cosby's public moralizing as reason for doing so.
Cosby has not commented on the release.
