Coroner Delays Findings In Autopsy Of 10-Year-Old Deaf Girl

HAWTHORNE (CBS) — The L.A. County Coroner has deferred a finding on the cause of death of a 10-year-old Hawthorne girl found last weekend, a lieutenant said on Monday.

An autopsy was scheduled Sunday to determine the cause of death and if Amanda Cooper was sexually assaulted, McKibben said. But Lt. Larry Dietz said a determination on the cause of the girl's death would be deferred pending further test results.

She was found unresponsive at her home in the 4800 block of West 132nd about 7:20 a.m. Saturday, according to sheriff's deputies and coroner's Investigator Jerry McKibben.

Emergency room doctors said the girl — who reportedly was deaf — may have been the victim of a sexual assault, deputies said.
