Corona Man, 27, Arrested In 2009 Road Rage Murder
CORONA (CBS) — A two-and-half year long investigation into a road rage murder has resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Corona resident.
Carlos Vasquez Reynaga was arrested Monday for the murder of Ignacio Duarte, Jr., 34, in 2009.
Authorities say Reynaga and Duarte were involved in a road rage incident on the westbound 91 Freeway just before 2 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2009.
Following the initial incident, the pair excited the freeway at Pomona Road.
"At the intersection of Pomona Road and Lincoln Ave, a suspect fired a gun from the suspect vehicle striking Duarte. The victim vehicle then rolled across the intersection east bound and crashed into the side of the Best Western Hotel," Corona police Det. Dan Bloomfield said.
Duarte was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Reynaga then reportedly fled the scene.
Detectives investigated the case for more than two years, before new leads led them to Reynaga.
Reynaga was already in custody at the time of his arrest on drug-related charges.
