Construction Worker Survives Lightning Strike In Fontana
FONTANA, Calif. (AP) — San Bernardino County authorities say a man has survived a lightning strike at a construction project.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says it happened shortly before 10 a.m. Friday in Fontana.
Fire Department dispatch Supervisor Donna Mueller says the man apparently was touching a construction crane when the lightning struck and was jolted, but he's conscious and breathing.
Thunderstorms are rumbling across the region as subtropical moisture flows into hot and humid Southern California.
On Thursday, 10 high school athletes running in a cross-country meet in the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles were hospitalized for heat problems. The high there was 97.
