Compton Schools Chief Fired Over Credit Card Abuse
COMPTON (AP) — The Compton Unified School District has fired its superintendent for using her district credit card for personal purchases.
The school boarded voted 4-2 on Tuesday to fire Kaye E. Burnside, who had been on administrative leave since May pending a district-commissioned investigation.
The Los Angeles Times says the investigation found that Burnside had made about $14,000 in personal charges on the district card and did not reimburse the district for some of the purchases.
The amount of unreimbursed purchases totals several thousand dollars, but the exact amount hasn't been disclosed.
Burnside says she didn't know it was wrong to use the credit card for personal use and that she believes she reimbursed the district for all personal use of the card. She's threatening to sue for wrongful termination.
