Compton Bus Driver Was Lost For 2 Hours With Special Needs Students
COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A bus driver who got lost transporting more than a dozen special needs students was new to the route, school officials said Wednesday.
Parents became concerned Tuesday when their children were not dropped off at the regular time, so they called the Compton School Police, according to the Los Angeles Times. The police called Bursch Elementary School, who notified the bus company.
A supervisor at the bus company was able to locate the bus and the driver, who has been working as a bus driver for three years, but Tuesday was her first day on that route, the Times reported.
One 6-year-old boy who has cerebral palsy reportedly arrived home at 7:30 p.m., rather than his usual drop-off time of 2:30.
Bus officials say the students were safe the entire time, and that the bus company was tracking the bus.
The incident comes a week after a special needs elementary student was left alone on a bus for four hours in Simi Valley. Officials said the bus driver, who has been placed on paid leave pending a district investigation, thought the bus was empty.
