Community Activists Get Out The Vote Before Election Day
CULVER CITY (CBSLA.com) — Republican and Democratic community activists were getting out the vote Monday to make sure every last person turns out to the polls on Election Day.
In Culver City, volunteers for President Barack Obama called voters in the swing states.
"I'm so amazed at the number of elderly people who when I say, 'I'm worried about you standing in line,' say, 'As long as I'm in that line, if they close it, I don't care. I'm voting,'" said Jean Bennett.
At the Republican campaign headquarters in Santa Monica, voters called in for help about state propositions and asked for the location to their nearest polling place, according to volunteer Marcella Sutton.
Activists in Gardena went to South Los Angeles neighborhoods to make sure residents could make it out to their polling place on Tuesday.
"We try to give them a location at least a few blocks from their house. We'll do our best to send out any volunteers to drive people to the polls," said Cook Wayne.
