Comic Greg Giraldo Dies From Accidental Overdose
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Greg Giraldo has died at the age of 44, according to friends of the popular funnyman.
Giraldo had been hospitalized in New Jersey since Saturday after accidentally overdosing on pain medication at a party.
The comedian was best-known for his appearances on the "Howard Stern Show," Comedy Central roasts and as a celebrity judge on "Last Comic Standing."
He also had a prominent role as a prosecutor in Lewis Black's show "The Root of All Evil," where he was able to exercise his legal chops. Before becoming a comic, the Harvard-educated Giraldo worked as a corporate lawyer before quitting the profession to become a stand-up comic.
His death has created a flurry of responses from comedians on Twitter and other social networking sites.
Giraldo is survived by three young sons.
