Cold Winter Storm Expected To Clear By Monday
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A cold low-pressure system is expected to move into Southern California Sunday, bringing with it a chance of showers.
A tenth to a quarter of an inch of precipitation is expected in the Los Angeles basin and snow at elevations as low as 4,000 feet could cause trouble for drivers along the Grapevine section of Interstate 5, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Rourke.
Chances of rain will increase to 70 percent by the afternoon and highs are forecast to be in the 50s. Thunderstorms are possible.
"It's pretty much a one-shot storm," Rouke said, adding that the skies should be clearing by Monday morning.
Rouke said the storm was a good reason to "turn the sprinklers off for a couple of days" but that that breeze will shift offshore again later in the week. Temperatures into mid 70s are expected to return by Wednesday.
An inch or two of snow is likely at lower elevations with four or more inches falling at resort levels in the San Bernardino Mountains.
