Coast Guard Resumes Search For Boat Carrying 3 Kids
SAN DIEGO (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard has resumed searching for a boat with three children aboard that was taking on water off the San Diego County coast.
Petty Officer Jetta Disco says a Coast Guard helicopter began searching the Point Loma area Thursday morning. She did not have the names or ages of the adult and three children onboard the 20-foot pleasure craft, which radioed a distress call Wednesday evening.
The call said the boat was taking on water about a mile north of the point.
Disco says that was the last contact with the boat. She says an air and sea search in gale-force winds and 6- to 10-foot seas Wednesday night covered 274 nautical miles but found nothing.
High waves and winds are expected to continue in the area into Thursday afternoon.
