Coach To Stand Trial For Allegedly Raping Student, 15
VENTURA (AP) — A former Southern California high school coach has been ordered to trial on charges of rape and other sex counts involving a 15-year-old female student.
A Ventura County judge ruled after Monday's preliminary hearing that there was enough evidence to order 24-year-old Christopher Atkinson to trial on felony counts of rape by the use of drugs, oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance and unlawful intercourse with a person under 16.
He's also charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The Ventura County Star says the student testified Monday that she met the Moorpark High School baseball coach on campus and she later agree to "hang out" with him at his Thousand Oaks apartment in May. They drank alcohol, she says, and she woke up as he was sexually assaulting her.
